US-based insurer MetLife has introduced Income Guard disability insurance product, intended to meet specific needs for consumers, while providing ability to customize their coverage.

The disability insurance will meet the unique needs of a variety of specialized occupations such as most medical and dental professionals, pharmacists, attorneys, accountants and white collar executives.

MetLife Retail Life and Disability products vice president Kieran Mullins said Income Guard also provides a customized approach when planning for individual disability insurance needs for clients.

"To complement the base product, there are a number of riders available to meet specialized needs," Mullins added.

In addition to ensuring income is protected, Income Guard helps pay bills such as a mortgage, tuition, car payments, and help cover expenses for food, clothing, and utilities.

"It also helps individuals avoid tapping into savings and jeopardizing the financial goals that they've established," Mullins said.
